Overview

The High Lonesome Institute (HLI) was established in 2012 as a 501(c)3 foundation for the official purposes of advancing scientific and scholarly knowledge and stewardship of natural resources on multiple-use landscapes in the Intermountain West. HLI is based at The High Lonesome Ranch in DeBeque, Colorado. The Institute accomplishes its purposes through applied science, education, and outreach focused on: (1) using the diverse HLR landscape-scale laboratory for experiential learning, (2) improving land, water and resource management, and (3) providing a forum for dialogue among diverse groups creating common ground on conservation and sustainable development.
